The Mythwalkers stand as beings of Myth and legend who walk among us. They are the guardians of the Great Cycle of Albion; the High Monarch dies, the sword Excalibur shatters; Herne comes to claim them, taking them back to the Isle of Avalon; The shattered pieces are given to The Morgaine and The Merlin; The Merlin then crafts a new Excalibur with the instructions of what Albion needs. It is then passed to The lady of the Lake, who gives it to the new High Monarch.
And so, the cycle begins again.
The Great Smith and Mage of Albion
The Merlin is a master of the elemental magics, the most active and most often encountered of the three Powers. In this capacity they travel the world, to further the wishes of the Gods of Albion, to spread their wisdom, to encourage good deeds and to aide against dark and chaotic forces. The Merlin is also the creator of Excalibur; the artisan who imbues the material form with great power and crafts it to suit the High King that will wield it.
The Merlin is often associated with the elemental sphere of magic.
The Great Seer of Albion
Morgaine, a powerful prophetess has the power to commune with the spirits and divine distant or even future events. Her role is to oversee and guide the people of Albion along the right paths, using the Merlin as her primary means of contact with the faction. She is capable of seeing glimpses of possible futures and providing insight into the course of action required to attain certain goals.
Morgaine is often associated with the spiritual sphere of magic.
The Hooded One, Stalker, Master of the Hunt
A mysterious figure, swathed in robes and carrying a long yew bow, the Hooded One may be glimpsed for the shortest time from the corner of the eye. They are part of an ancient cycle, which sees the death of one High Monarch succeeded by another. With his weapon of war, he brings to an end the High Monarch’s purpose. Only then are they free to pass to Melaphine’s Halls and let the former High Monarch take up their mantle as the Hooded One.
Keeper of Excalibur
The Lady of the Lake is a protector of the sacred Isle of Anwyn, the being who gives the sword forged by The Merlin to the next High Monarch of Albion. She never speaks and emerges only from the lakes of the island when one of her sacred duties must be performed.
The Apprentice, The Chaos
Poor, broken Nimue. She was seduced by The Merlin in a time where they and Lady Morgaine had parted ways and Emrys Myrdden used her and tossed her aside when they were done, when they and Morgaine had mended their relationship. Nimue was driven mad by the heartbreak she suffered and, with all of the magic of the deep and the dark of the world that Merlin had taught her, has become a chaotic and dangerous force. She is in no way evil, but she is a force to be reckoned with and never gives you quite what you ask for.
The Master Drollteller
Taliesin, the storyteller, is the spirit of the oral storytelling tradition of Albion. It is his place to observe and record the stories and great deeds of the people of Albion and to lead others to do the same - all Droll-Tellers of Albion are linked with him in some way, even if they do not know it.
The Slumbering Leviathan of Albion
It is said that the land of Albion itself rests upon the back of a great sleeping Dragon. Its tail rests in Bernicia, its spine can be seen in the slopes of the mountain range that cuts through Deira and Elmet and its head rests in Cornwall by the sea. The voices of Cornish witches and derwydds can be heard drifting from the caves that pock the coastline, singing the great beast lullabies and telling it stories to keep it slumbering. When the dragon stirs from its slumber the very land itself bucks and rolls and the mists that cling to the valleys and bays on a winter's morning are its breath.
It is said that the dragon will awaken when Albion's need is dire.
