Albion is a feudal society with clear hierarchies of Nobility, Middling classes and Peasantry. This is in part for flavour but more importantly to add roleplay hooks and allow each archetype to access different areas of the game. This ties into the concept of noblesse oblige which means “privilege entails responsibility” - a player may choose to portray a character of any of these three social classes, regardless of traditional Arthurian stricture on role. If you are thinking of creating a new character, please contact our command team.
There is no gender Bias in Albion and all titles, jobs or peasant status is open to anyone.
The Nobility are the upper class of Albion; they are those who hold, or are granted, a title. Within different Realms, differing hierarchies of titles exist. The important thing is that, as Nobles, there is a greater amount of responsibility and accountability for their actions than the other classes. They are expected to live up to the Code of Chivalry and hold themselves to a higher standard.
The Nobility commonly would be those with influence and high standing within Albion, including those with Land, Knights, and those of the High Clergy.
Some examples of titles could be:
Duke*, Duchess*, Earl*, Countess*, Count*, Viscount*, Vicountess*, Baron*, Baroness*, Lord, Lady, Dame, Sir, Syr, Bishop, Abbott, Abbess
*It is advised that players speak to the Faction Team during character creation if they wish to play a character with a tie to one of these titles (for example; holding a title oneself, playing a sibling to, or child of, such a noble) as they carry certain In Character connotations, including rights, duties and responsibilities, and are usually earned during the course of the game rather than simply started with.
The Middling Classes are as the name might suggest - they sit in the middle of Albion society. They have some responsibility being bound by the Law and should always strive to be the shining example of a citizen of Albion Lands.
They tend to be those who make an independent living and/or have roles and responsibility within a community or household.
Some examples of Middle Class roles could be:
Merchant, Knight errant, Squire, Sheriff, Page, Steward, Friar, Monk, Priest
The peasantry make up the largest portion of population within Albion. They are those who work the land and those who serve. The Peasantry are the responsibility of those above them; to be educated and shown how to behave. A Peasant is there to serve and therefore should never be asked to leave for the sake of privacy.
Peasantry are to be be protected by the Noble they owe fealty to, and this relationship should be reciprocal.
Some examples of Peasant roles might be :
Farmer, Forester, Cup bearer, Servant, Serf, Labourer
Within Albion there is The Monarchy; this is not usually open as a social class to player characters, though there may be opportunity in game to reach this. These are the top of Albion Society, with the High Monarch ruling over all. There are Monarchs for most Realms of Albion, as well as royal statuses such as Prince, Princess, and Royal Consorts.
